CULT Cymru Fair

The RTS Wales Centre will have a stand at the CULT Cymru Creative Industries Fair on 2-3 March, which is being held in Newport, at the city centre Campus of the University of Wales.  (CULT stands for Creative Unions Learning Together, and it was set up to meet the training needs of freelancers across the whole of Wales, and across the whole of the theatre and broadcasting industry.)
The RTS Wales Centre is also working in partnership with CULT Cymru with this year’s Friday evening event, the theme of the session will be:  “Winning drama commissions and developing and sustaining high quality jobs (on screen and behind the scenes) in drama production in Wales”.

New TV Channel!

3VTV, which is run by the Micro-Broadcasting Centre at the University of Wales, Newport, launched on Tuesday, January 31.  It broadcasts on the internet, and will focus on showing local interest films as well promoting businesses in the borough of Blaenau Gwent.

The death has been announced of broadcaster and TV producer Emyr Daniel, who will be remembered by many visitors to this page.

RTS Television Journalism Awards 2011

Congratulations to BBC Wales's Week In Week Out series.  Their Cash for Qualifications programme has been shortlisted in the Nations and Regions Current Affairs and News Event category.  The winners will be announced on the 22nd February.
 

Student Television Awards

The RTS Wales Student Television Awards 2011-2012 were presented on 10th February as part of the Ffresh Festival in the Riverfront Theatre at the Newport Film School.

In addition, the five winning S4C Community Short Films were premiered in the Riverfront Cinema.

The Indian DoctorThe Indian Doctor

In our first presentation for 2012, on 19th January, producer Tom Ware, along with director Lee Haven Jones, gave a talk on the first and second series of this comedy drama at the University of Glamorgan.

Starring Sanjeev Bhaskar, and filmed in Blaenavon, The Indian Doctor won an RTS 2010 Programme Award in the Daytime and Early-Peak Programme category.

The series has now won the award in the Best Daytime Programme category in the Broadcast Awards 2012.

Our Administrator, Hywel Wiliam, has set up a Facebook page for the Royal Television Society Wales Centre.  The page is an informal resource to allow Members and non-Members to share views and opinions about the RTS Wales Centre events and activities.


The Funny Things That Happen in Television

John MeadIn our December 8th event at Chapter, former TV Producer and Director John Mead, along with Peter Walker MBE and Euryn Ogwen Williams, recalled some of the disasters from the early days of ITV in Wales, and showed some archive clips.

The Future of the Media in Wales

The National Assembly for Wales' Communities, Equality and Local Government Committee has established a Task and Finish Group to undertake an inquiry into the future outlook for the media in Wales.
The Group was expected to report on or before 31st January 2012.
