Regular meetings and events offer opportunities for people to gather and discuss issues, hear top speakers from television, learn about and experience new technology.
Students and graduates are encouraged, through active programmes, to play their full part. The Centre stages the Student Television Awards leading to the national final in London, providing a showcase for up and coming talent.
Each year the centre has a "Careers Day" aimed at careers advisors giving them the opportunity to meet media professionals and get career advice for students.
Links with Screen Yorkshire, Skillset and Leeds Media help the centre to maximise its impact in Yorkshire and give its members added value. Amongst many events that we have organised was the visit of Tessa Jowell, the Culture Secretary, to Yorkshire canvassing opinion on the BBC's Charter review. She listened to local views on how the BBC should and could be reformed. Part of a strategic national tour, this local gathering was organised by the Yorkshire Centre in collaboration with ITV Yorkshire and Screen Yorkshire. The event was praised as an outstanding success and was covered extensively in "Television" magazine.
Each year the centre stages the Programme Awards Dinner in June showcasing the best of Yorkshire media production.
At the beginning of the year we stage a "Big Debate" at the Venue in Leeds focusing on some issue of importance to Yorkshire
Everyone is welcome to come along to our meetings, most are free, you do not have to be a member although we welcome new members to help support the centre.
