Television MagazineTelevision cover April 2012
May 2012

It is all too easy – even for news junkies – to take for granted the often dangerous and courageous work foreign correspondents and their crews carry out on an almost daily basis.

May’s cover story focuses on a roundtable discussion between the BBC and Sky News on how, in the age of 24-hour news, social media and citizen journalism, frontline reporting is backed up by rigorous safety procedures designed to minimise risk.

Beryl Vertue was the much-deserved winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award at March’s RTS Programme Awards. In the first of a series, Andrew Billen profiles an industry legend.

Also this month, don’t miss Kate Bulkley’s rundown of how apps are increasingly part of the TV mix, or Maggie Brown’s look at the main challenges facing the next director-general of the BBC.

RTS Early Evening Event: 18 June 2012
The BBC is about to appoint a new Director General – at a time of declining resources, unprecedented technological change and uncertain political support. How should the new DG respond to the challenges and opportunities he or she will face.
RTS Futures Event: 29 May 2012
